EXCURSIONS
Uda Walawe National Park is 15 minutes away. According to wildlife reports, there are about 500 elephants in the park and they often roam in herds of up to 100. Numerous species of birds as well as deer, monitor lizards and crocodiles can be spotted. Feeding time at the Elephant Transit Camp adjoining the National Park is also another wonderful experience; times are specified in advance. Here, orphaned baby elephants are cared for by the Wildlife Department until they are ready to be released to the jungle. An elephant sponsorship programme enables guests to support this worthwhile cause.

Note: Visitors to the Uda Walawa National Park from Kalu's are strongly advised to leave the park by 5:30 pm. For security reasons, the bund gates have often closed at 6pm, making it impossible to return to Kalu's Hideaway after that time.
